For reasons best described as a reunion I found myself on Saturday at Brixton Academy watching boyhood top rockers Motorhead. Now, Lambeth council might have ensured that they are no longer louder than much else that plays at the academy, but in all of our minds they are still the loudest band in the world and have stayed true to the cause: "We are Motorhead and we play rock and fucking roll" a 60 year old Lemmy reminded us before unleashing another rock classic. Pure class.
When I got into work this week it struck me that just how many briefs, under interrogation, still seem to translate into a desire to be 'louder than everything else'. Not more interesting or more thoughtful than everything else. Louder, more intrusive, more difficult to ignore. Motorhead also have a song for that approach: Killed by Death. Nice.
